Diwali Magic 3 years back..G & me

As i sit at my work station i send a quick message to G "Baby check out my Facebook wall now "

and i know, even though he hardly ever uses his FB account, he will open it on his cell phone and sneak a look and smile ...he will smile because my status message says " Three years ago sulagna mukherjee was wondering who is G and should she be meeting him and his parents in a weeks time "

Its been three whole years since a name which sounded same as my fathers, would become so much more special. Three years since a tiny lady in a red saree , a huge and jolly looking man in a striped shirt , would walk into my house, followed by a mustached man in brown corduroys and a blue and white stripped shirt , smiling and greeting by parents "Happy Diwali"

I was in a red salwar kameez, which baba found very nice when we had gone shopping and insisted i looked very pretty in it. while Ma reminded me for the Nth time, dont frown at the boy just because he has a mustache. I have always preferred men without them , until that Diwali evening .

I had been one of those non-believers in love, having resorted to Vodka and shoe shopping after having my heart broken. Its ridiculous, the things you do to see your parents smile, because they traveled 1800 Kms to spend Diwali and to ensure their 25 year old agrees on marriage. Now, i know over the last two years that i have been blogging, that this is a similar feeling or thought with many of us..and all i can say is
the right person is tucked away somewhere, probably in the beaches of Goa or surfing the stock market on her Blackberry, or feeding a street dog and will one fine day just stand before you. And your heart will stay still and you will ask yourself "where the f*** were you man all this while"
                                                                                                 - Sulagna Chatterjee
Amid those 15 minutes we sat alone talking about how crowded Mumbai trains are , how his work might take him to Germany again, His niece , My friends i knew i wanted to reach across the table and hold on his hands. You know how i have always had a fascination with his fingers !!

The wait till the next evening, for his father to call, seeing my father smile on the phone as he spoke to his father, the realization that the lady in red saree would henceforth be my ma and the jolly looking man would be my baba, i would see a wedding invite which says "sulagna weds G" was unforgeable. Its surprising how one man and his gentle voice, his loving family, would bring me into a new and beautiful world i had not believed in.

A little bit of magic , lots of love and wishes !
So this Diwali, i once again thank God for bringing to me the brightest light in my life, for making me believe in the magic of Diwali, for having someone say to me every 10th November "Happy Anniversary Baby " for giving me a family that made me proud and blessed to be married into and for making my parents say "humare sarey responsibilities poore ho gaye "

G and i wish you all a beautiful and blessed Diwali, where your prayers are answered and everyone of you has a little of the Diwali magic rub onto you !!!

So cute and beautiful, S! So loved your little story. You know I met my in-laws before I met my husband. I was invited over to their place for lunch- Baba had made his famous Gosht Biryani. I went there, with a brave game face, met them and fell in love with their son. :-)

P.S. You should write more often.
