You Will Be The Wind Beneath My Wings

I remember waking you up at 6 and telling you "Its positive " . You were asleep , but your pretense  to sleep was evident with the way you had hugged me on hearing about the big news..Knowing you for 5 years, it takes you a couple of Whiskeys to hug me that quick and hard !

Deciding to have a baby is probably the biggest decision in our lives. Its a choice you make knowing you will be sacrificing a lot of other choices. Its knowing, that you are willingly deciding to bring your world upside down.

But did it really turn upside down ?

The night we were all alone in our hospital cabin, as a family of three, with our daughter, thats the exact moment it hit me "its official : our world is upside down" . I tried catching some sleep after the marathon of events of the day and you walked..you walked all night holding that wailing pooping peeping little bundle of ours. I guess thats how she knows that you will always be there to wipe her tear and sort out her crap. I saw a man who had been running like a madman all day, watch his wife scream in pain, stay calm and manage the hyper ventilating in-laws, chase the doctors and be there just in time to catch the first glimpse of our baby. I had my share of excitement and slept, but you, were up all night putting the blanket around me, running the show as your daughter screamed her lungs out every time you tried putting her in bed.

Raising an August born is not easy , especially if she comes with such a strong mind at a tender age. I have always seen you stern and yet so gentle with her wishes. From the minute she is up in her Crib, to the minute i am putting her to sleep at night, your presence pacifies her. Its probably because she knows that nothing will happen to her, as long as you are around. The world is safe  beautiful, colorful  warm, full of sunshine, flowers and love because you scoop her up if the road is broken, you hold her close if the wind is cold, you lull her to sleep if the night is late, you show her the sun, when the skies are shrouded in clouds, you cover her head if the sun is strong, you rub her cheeks if the room is cold, you blow her milk cool if its steaming warm, you mend her cars when she pulls them apart..you make her world safe and happy.

As a woman, i have always been strong independent and convinced, but today i am fearless. I know i have a man beside me who will let me walk my own path, who will warn me if there's trouble ahead, but knowing me, he will be ready to look out for me because i love trouble. You have let me be myself, let me dream, let me believe that two strangers who meet for just a few seconds can miraculously spend their entire lives together being happy(excluding the choice in music and movies). You are my happily ever after.

And today as we raise our daughter, we shall tell her to be brave, to fight her own battles, to count on her family as the biggest strength, to be wise and strong. She will be our epitome of courage and support. She is our very own story of togetherness. You are proof that the world has some very amazing men who treat their women with respect, integrity , tenderness  love an a fantastic breakfast every Sunday morning.

Thank you for helping me write this beautiful story of ours, for believing in my dreams, for letting me stay another night late at work, for walking with a sleepy baby ,putting her to sleep while the mother is chasing a dream, for telling our baby that her mother is working towards getting the world more beautiful for all of us, for telling me always "everything will be fine "

This is our story, our own happily ever after and you are the wind beneath my wings !

You always put emotions in such perfect words Sulagna! If ever I want to write a love letter, I am outsourcing it to you. That seems like a good business idea. Think about it :) I know I will be on your permanent client list.
